Hanging Planter 2010 Update

Have picked 3 ripe tomatoes. The 4 plants have a total of 19 tomatoes that are on their way to eating status.

Very sweet, firm and great with a little mayo.

Hanging Planter 2010

Well, I decided to give it one more go. I have a Topsy Turvy planter with 4 tomato plants in it. One from the bottom and 3 from the side holes. All are of the "early girl" variety. So far they are growing well and I have 4 small maters.

Hanging Tomato Planter Product Review Final

Though I did not get the amount of tomatoes you see in the commercial, I did get 2-3 tomatoes weekly as they ripened. And....the plant still has one tomato on it in November. The bell peppers were very slow, producing about 3 over the entire growing season. The hot peppers were out of control, I could not pick them fast enough.

Hanging Tomato Planter Product Review Part 3

Well, I have a tomato! Very small but growing nicely. More than 12 blooms are present. The pepper plants are doing well too. More than 30 blooms over 6 plants. Nothing on the cucumbers though.

Looking forward to that first tomato...may be sliced on a sandwich or put in salsa.

Hanging Tomato Planter Product Review Part 2

Got bloom? I do! The tomato plant has 3 blooms as of yesterday morning. Looking forward to my tomatoes. The pepper and cucumber plants have grown but no blooms yet.

The darkening at the stem base does not seem to be changing much and so far has not caused harm to the plant.

Hanging Tomato Planter Product Review Part 1.5

Even though there haven't been any blooms, I though I would post a quick observation. It seems the plants are growing very well but I have noticed a darkening where the stem comes out of the planter. As the planters are watered fro the top and the opening is a sponge with a slit cut to the cetner, I am afraid it may be rotting at the base. More to come...

Hanging Tomato Planter Product Review Part 1

Recently, my wife ordered me a hanging tomato planter. After a few years of small gardens, potted gardens on the deck and the occasional plant hidden in my wife's mulch beds, I started talking about the hanging planter ads that plaster my favorite tv shows.

She actually ordered me three of them and they arrived 2 weeks ago....so I planted a tomato in the first, hung it up and watered it. The second planter has three additional holes around the sides allowing for four plants. I planted three cucumber and one pepper plant, hung and watered it as well. The third planter is still in its box, a very lonesome banana pepper plant waiting to be loved, will go in that one this weekend.

As of this writing, the tomato plant has easily doubled in size ans has turned to grow towards the sun. The cucumbers have not changed much, but the pepper has doubled in size as well and has also turned towards the sun. So far I am cautiously optimistic.

Come back for part two, which I will write if and when I see the first blooms.
